Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has signed a Decision approving the planning for inland waterway infrastructure in the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050. The required investment totals VND157.53 trillion (.91 billion) in 2021-2030.

Funds of VND240 trillion (.54 billion) are needed to develop railway infrastructure over the next decade, and construction of the first two sections of the North-South high-speed railway will start in 2028, the Ministry of Transport has said. It will also prioritize investment in railways connecting Vietnam with China, to facilitate exports to Europe.

An estimated 270,000 people will benefit from the support package, of which some 3,500 are from vulnerable groups.
